Magnetic Wooden Puzzle Game Set: Fishing and Bug Catching

These are perfect for my 3 year old son! He loves catching his fishies! He can now name all the animals and asks to play with this daily. Of course Melissa & Doug is amazing quality. And this is a great price.

My little one loves it. I got it when she has been 2 years old and she did not show much interest. But now at 2 1/2 she loves it.

The pieces are bright and colorful and very sturdy. The magnets are strong and work well. Edges of pieces are really smooth.

Both my 2 and almost 4 yr old love to play with these puzzles. I love that there is a good variety of sea animals and bugs so that the kids can learn the different types. Using the "wands" with the magnets on them is good practice for their motor skills and also makes doing the puzzles more fun. The pieces are made of nice light wood so each piece is easy to pick up with the magnets. The colors and quality of the puzzle are exceptional! We love all of our Melissa and Doug puzzles! We even got one as a gift from a friend that was just like these magnet ones, and it was a Cinderella theme. I would highly recommend these for your young kids or as a gift for a little one!

Originally we bought these puzzles for my son as a 2nd birthday present, he immediately loved the "fishing" mechanism. My experience with Melissa and Doug toys told me this would be a durable , well made toy. They did not disappoint! These puzzles have made it through a year of use and abuse they still hold up and look new! He's put a fair amount of effort into this toy and can now get the shapes to go in. It's demonstrated multiple levels of play, transitioning well between developmental stages. This is a toy he'll love for years to come. I loved it so much I recently bought these for my nephews 2nd birthday,too!

I purchased the Melissa and Doug Fishing and Bug Catching set over the holidays to give to my then 20 month old daughter for Christmas. In short, my daughter really enjoys playing these games and has quickly "caught" on how the catch the fish and bugs using the magnetic pole and net. What's really nice about the set is that with a little imagination from the parents, it provides many different opportunities for toddler age children-- hand eye coordination to pick up the pieces, spatial recognition in putting pieces back into place, vocabulary and education if parents what to talk about the different animals or colors or shapes, learning about taking turns with parents, and so forth. The set is well made, with nice colorful pictures overlaid on wood pieces and board. As one reviewer pointed out, the edges of the pieces are subject to some wear with extended use, but in the end, it's not preventing us from playing the game and my daughter doesn't mind. One of the more frequent complaints is that the spaces where the pieces fit do not have pictures to indicate which fish or bug goes in that location. While I do think that was an unfortunate oversight, we've been using that opportunity to teach our daughter about looking at the shape of the piece and figuring out which space looks like the same shape. She has caught on with time, with some success. In the end, my daughter loves the game and will request to play it. As with most things at this age, it only holds her attention for 15 to 30 minutes or so, but she continues to come back to it on a regular basis. I suspect she'll outgrow the game in a year or so, but for now, we're happy with the purchase.

Our kid was getting great at the knob puzzles from M&D so we thought we would expand his puzzle horizon. We came across these and ended up getting them for Christmas. These seem great for three main reasons. 1-great quality, which we have come to expect from our M&D toys. 2-super colorful and fun puzzles that are more challenging but still manageable for our 2 year old. 3-love, love, love the fine motor skills he is working on when he uses the magnet to pick up or place the pieces in the puzzle. Great gift item!

These puzzles are well made and were a consistent favorite with 18 month to 3 year olds in our nursery class. The net and fishing pole make the puzzles so much more appealing than a standard puzzle. The pieces have all held up well after a LOT of use by our youngsters. The magnets are strong enough that the pieces can be easily lifted out of place and do not fall off of the net or fishing pole. A great purchase for any toddler!

My boys don't love puzzles but this finally got them into into it !! "Fishing" for the prices and racing to put them back!! Game changer for us !!
