Will this work inside a 10- or 14-inch Velux sun tunnel? The Velux-branded light kit seems to be no longer available.

If it fits and is 60 watts or less, anything should work.

What kind of light socket is this? Is it a two prong or an E26 'standard medium screw base'? Thank you!

Edison standard medium screw base.

is the junction box suspended as shown in the picture or mounted to a structural (stud or joist)?

The metal junction box is designed to be mounted to meet NEC electrical code requirements. All wiring should be performed by a qualified electrician.

Do i need this ? what does it do? i was just looking for natural light. i’m confused.

No you don't need the light kit, but it comes in handy when it's dark out.
