Question 1

I am looking for a triangular burnisher. What is the difference between this tool and a burnisher?

Accepted Answer

This tool, a machinist's scraper, as the first reponder said, usually removes metal. Burnishing, I think, is more of a pressing and rubbing operation that smoothes, polishes, deforms, and hardens metal. The explanation at the following website might help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burnishing_%28metal%29A burnisher (triangular, oval, or round) is a tool often used by woodworkers to sharpen "cabinet scrapers". If that's what you need the burnisher for, there is more information here:http://forums.finewoodworking.com/fine-woodworking-knots/hand-tools/choice-burnisherhttps://woodworkingmasterclasses.com/discussions/topic/which-burnisher/http://www.fine-tools.com/G10004.htmHowever, I think that although a machinist's scraper would ordinarily be used to remove metal, you might be able to use the the machinist's scraper as a burnisher by pressing it down and "dragging" it in the direction opposite to the direction that its sharp edge is facing. But you have to be careful not to cut yourself - the machinist's scrapers are sharp!

Question 2

how effective is it at deburring silver?

Accepted Answer

It is a machinists scraper so it can deburr most metals, silver is kind of soft so care should be taken when using this tool. If you are making jewelry I would suggest using fine emery cloth instead so you do not gouge the material, Hope that helps.
