Do these have a side inlet, or jus that the bottom?

Toro 53743 6-inch 570Z Pop-Up Sprinkler with X flow does not have a side inlet

Will the new pop-up fit inside an old 570 housing already buried in the ground.

I always simply unscrew the top, and replace all the guts and new cap, leaving the body in the ground. It is so much easier than having to dig all around it, flushing out the dirt that falls in, and trying to get the new body to screw on.

Does this require purchase of additional Mist heads or is the red top it comes with meant to remain in place

The red cap is a "flush cap". It is designed to stay on the unit while you flush your system. After flushing, you will need to install the Toro nozzle that matches the pattern and distance you require.
