Product Description ------------------- Enter the Dark Tower where creatures of the night lurk in shadows, and ghostly sounds echo through the halls. This gothic soundtrack contains chilling sound effects, haunting melodies, and pulse-pounding orchestrations to set the mood for your darkest nightmare. Venture forth... if you dare. This early, out-of-print release by composers and Halloween music pioneers Midnight Syndicate features the signature blending of dark orchestral, movie-score style music and sound effects that they would become known for. Ten of the most popular tracks from this album were re-released on Midnight Syndicate's 2006 compilation, Out of the Darkness: Retrospective 1994-1999 and are currently available both on CD and digitally. Review ------ Born of the Night is gothic mood music much like Lee Blaske's Journey of a Vampire; however, Midnight Syndicate is more sinister and much darker. Haunting and varied instrumental songs are enriched with occasional solemn spoken vocals. Born of the Night is a perfect soundtrack for a horror movie. Midnight Syndicate encapsulates the power and passion of the night and its mysteries. They create soundscapes that are unquestionably creepy; and there's nothing cheesy about it. This is an exceptional release that beautifully explores gothic horror and romance, and I highly recommend it. If you like the cover artwork of this release, you should also seek out the put out by the artist through Monolith Graphics. The gothic imagery accompanies the music well, and the blue and black images add a lovely dark touch to any wall. --Outburn Magazine It used to be back in the days before MTV succeeded in mutating songs from works of art into video sound bytes, that musicians were able to convey a mood or detail entire stories with the use of sound much the same way that a painter utilized pigment. I had thought that most work of this sort was becoming relegated to either ambient music or film scores composed by people who still think Bernard Herrman is the epitome of his craft and therefore 'the bomb.' Thankfully Midnight Syndicate has proven me wrong on all counts. The music on their new CD, Born of the Night, is everything one could ask for in a late night listening disc; strong melodies, orchestration that is subtle yet sumptuous, and an overall sense that the collective vision behind it is both coherent and cohesive. Born of the Night is music that sounds as if it could be a lost film score from a classic Hammer film . . . only with a more electronic edge. Midnight Syndicate has crafted a beautiful album here, perfect for that reflective time between the darkest part of the night and when the first slivers of light come peeking over the ains at dawn. Born of the Night is truly music for that late night film that runs within your head. --Carpe Noctem Midnight Syndicate present to you the perfect background music, the perfect accompaniment to a dark ballet and yes, the perfect y time music. I personally love y time music. You play this CD as you lay in bed, the room dark, perhaps lit only by a few flickering candles. Sweet dreams are assured. If you've read any of my reviews, you know I like to be frank. Honesty is the best policy and I'd hate to lead anyone into buying something they'd regret. I don't think you'd regret owning Midnight Syndicate's Born of the Night. It's a well-blended mix of romantic vampire hymns, Disney's Haunted Mansion, gloomy doll's house themes and haunting orchestrations. Perhaps what I like best about Born of the Night is the lack of vocals. All pieces are vocal free (save a few creepy whispers here and there). I find that today's dark music tends to border on the ridiculous and even the over dramatic...perhaps even to the point of the embarrassing. Midnight Syndicate is just the site. A vampire's theme is ever present. A dark and melodious romance, church bells ring, synthesizers phase throughput and the phantom's organ speaks quietly to you. I like to read other reviews on CDs while I am writing my own. I like to see what others think and how they compare to each other. This is probably one of the first times I have agreed with most of them. Some have said Midnight Syndicate is the perfect dark movie soundtrack. Which is exactly what I said the moment I listened to it. Born of the Night could quite possibly be the soundtrack to Dracula or Nosferatu. You'll find yourself thinking Theda Bara, Max Screck, Bela Lugosi, Carmilla, Jack the Ripper and Barnabas Collins. I highly recommend this album. --Gothic Preservation Society P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); About the Artist ---------------- Edward Douglas Gavin Goszka Midnight Syndicate blends orchestration and synth textures with sound effects to create gothic-horror soundscapes. The goal of the music is to transport listeners to worlds and movies of their own creation. See more ( javascript:void(0) )
