Programming and Customizing the PIC Microcontroller

I'm a newbie to working with PICs and starting to program them in BASIC or FlowCode. Bought the book since it stated on the cover that Assembly, BASIC and C languages were covered. First part of book thoroughly covers PIC chip architectures, programmers, emulators and compilers. Most of the book covers the applications examples. Unfortunately (for me only), all these examples are assembly or C code, not BASIC. Near the end of the book is a 32 page chapter on using BASIC (there are 1227 total pages excluding the Index). Was hoping for more BASIC examples.If you want to learn about PIC microcontrollers and are not disinclined to learn Assembly or C programming, this is a very good book. If you want to learn BASIC programming of PIC's, I do not recommend this book.

the book is a little out-dated, it goes back to 1998 but other than that it's still a good read.it was free basically,just paid for shipping.but I wouldrecommend a newer edition

Good, but dated.

Pretty good overall. Contains more assembly language than most books like this, which is why I bought it. I would recommend this others. I use it as a reference or refresher.

I recently retired from a 45-year career of programming in many languages but I'm new to the PIC and to microcontrollers. This book has been very handy as a reference. Myke has done a very good job explaining the fundamentals and providing coding samples that are helpful to both the newcomer and to the experienced programmer.

There is 1243 pages on this book but up to 243 and after 965, there is no useful information. A example:On figure 2.3, we have that about the printing of datasheets: "to create two-side documents, first print the back side in reverse order, put the pages back into the printer, and print the front side in ascending order." Are you kidding with me, author?On the book, we have:*useless block diagrams*no logical sequence. Low-end, mid-range and PIC18 are all treated simultaneously. Not very pedagogical.*evasive comments about personal experiences and 8051 microcontrollers approach ( I can do it but it is very difficult to you...)*nothing about USB. It is very disappointing for a book that deals with PIC18 family.In general, the book is not a new edition:On Figure 14.4 there is a printscreen of one very old MPLAB edition. That chapter about debug is very outdated and useless.On page 538, we have it: " You might be a bit suspicious of an RTOS after what I've just written. After all, you probably have a PC running Windows/95 or Windows/NT."Recommendation: Designing Embedded Systems with PIC Microcontrollers: Principles and Applications

Have browsed the book but haven't dug in in detail yet. I will be using to implement a multi-loop PID temperature controller for a client.

There's a lot of information in this book. Unfortunately it's presented in nearly random order. Possibly useful as a reference but comparatively useless for learning the subject. I program for a living and I gave up.

A usefull aid to learning to program micro controllers for beginners.

the technoly PIC 8 bits is a bit ols and most of the techincal information in this book is free on the microchip web pages

Ouvrage dense, très complet, précis, qui décrit en profondeur tous les mécanismes internes des PIC y compris leur programmation et les modèles les plus récents. Nombreux exemples dans tous les domaines. Un ouvrage de référence qui ne se contente pas de recopier les documentations Microchip et qui ne fait pas double emploi avec d'autres livres de Myke Predko.
